Fresh Mint Chutney Recipe – Spicy Green Chutney for Dosa, Idli & Snacks | No Coconut Version Too!

Mint Chutney Recipe – South Indian Green Chutney in Just 5 Minutes

Let’s be honest. We all love that zingy green chutney they serve in South Indian hotels. The one that instantly lifts up any dosa, idli, vada, or even a plain slice of bread

This Mint Chutney recipe is your ticket to recreating that magic at home — without hunting down any rare ingredients or spending hours in the kitchen.

Just throw a few everyday things in the mixer and boom  you’ve got a spicy, tangy chutney that hits all the right spots in your tongue.

Freshly made green mint chutney in a small bowl

 Ingredients:

2 cups fresh coriander leaves

1 cup fresh mint leaves

1 small red onion, chopped

1 tbsp grated coconut (optional )

Juice of 1 lemon

1–2 green chilies (adjust to taste)

2 garlic cloves

1 tsp grated fresh ginger

¼ cup water (add more if needed)

Salt to taste

How to Make Mint Chutney (Seriously, It’s Easy as eating)

Add coriander, mint, onion, garlic, ginger, green chili, coconut, lemon juice, and salt to a blender or mixie jar

Add a splash of water and blend it smooth. Scrape the sides once or twice to mix it properly.

Adjust water to get the chutney to your preferred consistency – thick but pourable is best.

Done. That’s it. Seriously.

Storage Tip:

Store in an airtight container in the fridge. Stays good for 4–5 days easily. You can also freeze it in small cubes and thaw as needed.

🌶️ Spicy, Tangy, Fresh – A Must with Every South Indian Dish
Mint chutney is like that one friend who gets along with everyone. Serve it with:

Onion Podi Uthappam (my fav)

Idli, dosa, medu vada ( uluntha vadai )

Pakoras and bajjis etc etc

✨ Mr. Desi Twist:

Want a slightly sweet version? Add a tiny piece of jaggery while blending.
Not a fan of coconut? Skip it, and just add a splash of curd or a soaked cashew instead.
