How to Make Restaurant style Podi Dosa at Home – Crispy South Indian Breakfast | Mr. Desi
Crispy Podi Dosa Recipe – South Indian Breakfast Classic (Mr. Desi Style)
What is Podi Dosa?
Podi Dosa is that magical mix of soft dosa + spicy podi (powder) + ghee or oil. If you’ve eaten it once at a Tamil or Andhra home, it probably haunts your food dreams 😋
At Mr. Desi, we’re all about keeping that authentic homemade taste alive — so here’s how to make it with our own flavorful Idli Podi.

Ingredients You’ll Need
- Dosa Batter (fermented – homemade or store bought)
- Mr. Desi Idli Dosa Podi – our spicy, roasted lentil chutney powder (or any idli podi)
- Gingelly oil / ghee – use generous for best taste
- Optional: chopped onions, curry leaves for twist (tastes better with this)
Step-by-Step: How to Make Podi Dosa
Step 1: Heat the Tawa
Use a cast iron tawa if possible. Heat it until it's hot but not very smoking. Spread a few drops of oil or ghee and wipe clean with half onion or tissue.
Step 2: Pour & Spread Batter
Take a ladle of dosa batter and spread in circular motion. Make it thin and even for that restaurant-style crispiness.
Step 3: Sprinkle the Magic
Drizzle gingelly oil or ghee around the edges and center. Now generously sprinkle Mr. Desi Idli Podi or any Idli podi of your choice. Add more if you like it spicy 🌶️
Step 4: Cook Until Golden
Let it roast on medium flame. No need to flip. When edges lift up and the bottom turns crisp brown, fold and serve.
Optional: Add chopped onions + curry leaves on top of podi before folding for extra flavor!
