What is Podi Idli?
Crispy fried idli pieces coated in a spicy, fragrant powder made from dal, chilies, and sesame seeds etc.
It’s the perfect mix of crunch, spice, and nostalgia. A favorite from Tamil Nadu to Andhra kitchens, and now? Your new obsession.
Ingredients You’ll Need
8–10 idlis (mini or regular; leftover works great!)
1.5 to 2 tbsp of Idli Podi (Use Mr.Desi Idli Podi for authentic homemade flavor)
1.5 tbsp sesame oil (nallennai = flavor bomb)
Few curry leaves (optional)
¼ tsp mustard seeds
A pinch of hing (asafoetida)
Salt for taste
Let’s Make It – Step by Step
Step 1: Cut & Ready
Chop your idlis into bite-sized cubes . You can also steam fresh ones and let them cool a bit.
Step 2: Tempering
In a pan, heat sesame oil.
Add mustard seeds let them pop.
Toss in curry leaves + hing. Let it sizzle.
Step 3: Time to Add the Magic
Add your idli pieces and fry for a minute or two.
Now sprinkle the idli podi on top.
Mix well so the masala coats every idli nicely.
Toss everything together so the masala hugs every idli cube ❤️
